PENTECOST SUNDAY MAY 24th
“There appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:3-4).
Pentecost Sunday, celebrated 50 days after Easter Sunday, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Christ’s disciples and marks the end of the season of Easter. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that empowers the disciples to begin preaching, bringing others to know and love Christ and to become part of the Church. On Pentecost, we are invited to wear red to symbolize fire and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

ALDERSGATE DAY MAY 24th
The “Heart-Warming” Experience
Aldersgate Day, celebrated on May 24 (or the nearest Sunday), commemorates the 1738 spiritual turning point for John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, when he experienced an assurance of salvation and felt his heart “strangely warmed”. This pivotal event, which occurred at a society meeting on Aldersgate Street in London, profoundly influenced the Methodist movement. The day when John’s faith became about his heart and soul, not just his mind. His ‘conversion’ happened on 24th May, 1738.
